Poorakali   ]qc¡fn
Poorakkali is a traditional dance ritual performed by men during the nine-day Pooram festival in Bhagavathy temples across Northern Kerala.
The Pooram festival begins on Karthika and concludes with Pooram of the Malayalam Calendar to honour Kamadeva, the God of Love.

The Poorakkali dance is performed by a troop pf young men docked in lion costumes around a huge, multi-tiered lit lamp known as 'nilavilakku'.
No singers or musicians accompany the dance, instead the dancers themselves keep rhythm by singing, clapping and executing synchronized foot-thumping movements.

Most of the songs are hymns from the Ramayana or the Bhagavatha.
